The United States is in the midst of an overdose epidemic: more than 50,000 Americans died from drug overdoses last year – a rate that has tripled over the last 20 years! Alcoholism is responsible for 10% of all deaths in adults ages 20-64.  The impact of addiction and alcoholism is devastating to not only the individual but also to family, friends, community and the economy. A mere 11% of the 23 million individuals suffering from substance abuse issues actually received treatment at a specialty facility.  At least 325,000 individuals in need tried and failed to get treatment due to economic hardships.  Although addiction knows no boundaries of race, gender, ethnicity, religion, or social and economic status, substance abuse is more prevalent in families living in poverty. Despite this epidemic, treatment costs continue to exponentially rise.

The Seraph Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization specifically created to assist individuals who are unable to afford treatment.  Treatment costs include everything from transport to a facility, extensive therapeutic services, and basic housing costs. Nearly every dollar raised by Seraph Foundation is utilized for the direct benefit of individuals seeking treatment.  Seraph Foundation offers the hope that recovery is possible to individuals and families that lack the resources to combat the fatal diseases of addiction and alcoholism.  Your financial assistance can give individuals in need the chance at recovery that they so desperately deserve!

Seraph Foundation will conduct and support a number of fundraising events to support individuals seeking treatment. To kick-off our fundraising effort, we are excited to announce Andy Gallatin’s kayaking journey (riverweasel.com) through the heartland of the United States! Andy, a recovering addict with two years in recovery, is spending the next several months kayaking through the United States to promote awareness about addiction and to raise money to assist individuals unable to afford treatment. His long journey demonstrates determination, fortitude and a commitment to assist others seeking recovery options. Andy will be making many stops on his journey to speak with groups, media and individuals. The physical and mental fortitude necessary for Andy to complete this journey of at least 3000 miles reflects the courage and strength it takes for a person to enter a treatment program to begin the journey of recovery. Your support of this project by making a donation now or making a per-mile pledge would greatly assist Seraph Foundation in enabling individuals to enter treatment. For more information on Andy and his journey, see riverweasel.com.
